Tell me about it, relationship I was in some time back became complicated due to job relocation, she's sick of weekend relationship and announces she's gonna sell up and move in with me...
So her house sold plan is I hire a 7.5 ton truck Friday night after work, drive some four hours plus to her place, she is gonna have everything boxed up, bubble wrapped etc ready to load first thing Saturday morning with the aid of one of her family, then drive another four hours plus back to one of them storage places where her whole two bed roomed houses load of furniture is gonna be stored, then return hire truck and have a beer...
Well that was the plan,,, I arrive late Friday night, house is as normal, not one thing packed, she says I'll do it in morning while you two load big stuff in to truck... Morning comes me and helper start putting big stuff in truck, she's fanning around wrapping dishes, ornaments etc in paper and placing them in boxes, all stuff that should have been done in advance and her helping us load,,, two hours in to loading helpers says I've got to go, got work today,,, so it leaves me and her packing and loading, we're still loading when I had it in my mind we would have been at the storage place unloading... We eventually set off hours behind schedule,,, it's obvious we ain't gonna have the truck back in the two day hire time so I phone them saying we're gonna be a few hours late I park truck in street and post keys through letter box, im told that could be at your cost mate if truck gets vandalised which happend a lot round this area,,, ended up paying another days hire and parking it at my place...
We are also pushing it for getting to storage place which shut about eight pm, we phone them and explain we are gonna arrive about fifteen minutes before they close, guy says he don't mind hanging back a bit while we unload, think when he saw what we had to unload he wished he hadn't said it...
He looks at load and says that won't fit in the storage unit you've booked, (unit was size of a small car garage), I say it will, I've worked out size of load it's got to go in in a certain order (like a jigsaw) but will fit,,, these units are expensive, almost like having a monthly mortgage payment and the bigger the unit the bigger the bill, it will fit, and sure enough it did with not an inch to spare...
All in all a horrendous day, and the rest didn't get much better...

Re: What are you doing today??
Still on the subject moving,,, I had a cantankerous old uncle, he was originally from Orkney but as an old man eventually ended up living in a village called Ayton near Berwick upon Tweed, we didn't see much of him but kept in touch, if we were out for a Sunday drive we'd drop in and see him, he didn't drive but came up to Edinburgh occasionally and would drop in to see us...
My parents get a letter from him (he didn't have a phone), saying he's bought a house in Orkney and he's going back there to die...
Month or so goes by and he turns up at my parents house in Edinburgh, they say thought you were in Orkney...
Story goes, removal men turn up early his place in Ayton load truck, plan is he is traveling with them in truck to house he's bought in Orkney, you will see from AA route plan below this is a 364 miles journey including a ferry crossing, time given of 8h 26m is for a car, it's gonna be a lot longer in a truck...
Anyways truck pulls up at property he's bought in Orkney, it's occupied,,, its the people he bought the house off still there, he's obviously miffed wondering what's going on, as are the removal men... Would seem transaction on house was never completed, people in house say transaction started then communication from my uncle just stopped, they thought the doozy old eejit had died...
So an overnight in a hotel in Orkney then back in truck and back to Ayton, luckily the place hadn't sold...
Wouldn't have wanted to be stuck with him on that return journey, bet the cantankerous old git kicked off all 364 miles of it...

Re: What are you doing today??
Went back this morning and the woman has nearly packed, blox another van load and back to empty his garage, when i opened the door i nearly fainted, the words were ( are you having a laugh,)
Lukes on the phone the keys have to be dropped by 1,30, feck right off thats impossible,
he had more road repair stuff than J M Murphy, granite sets, stone troughs, enough wheel barrows spades and rakes, wacker plates, tampers, water carriers, tar buckets, shovels spades picks, chains, kerb pins my poor hiace was on its arse, got back to base camp just as a 3 by 2 bird came to do an EPC certifcate and the gas man to do a safety certificate, then i plumbed the washer in and sorted some boxes of crap out,

Re: What are you doing today??
Our youngest gave us a voucher for afternoon champagne tea in the Signet library , [very posh] we went this afternoon, the town was jumping, especially the High street where the signet is, had a lovely time great food and really enjoyed the experience, we watched an asian pair of women on the next table, this joint is extremely expensive by the way, the girls started of with tea and savouries then a guy joins them, the table was set for three people, after a wee while another guy comes in and the first guy leaves, the second guy has a bite and then another guy comes in, the meal is like a meze , we left so don't know if anyone else joined in , you live and learn!!!

it was very slow at times and Cam had to sit above reception to get a better signal as our room was too far away. I had to wait until he was not using the wifi as only one could sign in.Campbell Brodie wrote:Just paid for a week's internet. €27.50. Only thing is I have to use battery power where the WIFI is as my travel pug doesn't fit their sockets! (Though it does in the bedrooms...weird).
