Re: What are you doing today??
Was up in Armagh for Eileen's sister's month anniversary mass. Don't know if you guys have it, but over here, it's traditional to have a mass said in the deceased name on the 1st month anniversary. All they do really is read out her name at the beginning. I don't get it but if it helps some of the family cope, well, who am I to question it. Everyone went back to her house after and had a bite to eat. John, her husband, got quietly emotional when we were leaving. Said that Shiela would have loved having all her friends and especially her sisters ( very tight group ) around for a glass of vino and a chat. I honestly don't know where that man gets his strength from. I was asked to carry her coffin at the funeral. I never felt more sad or privileged at the same time before.

As you are aware I ain't religious and if I was life says I'd have to be batting for the other side, Annie has the same view on reliegon but being brought up as a catholic it was drummed in to her at school (didn't stick), her brother dies, at the church service she points out this wizen up old nun, Annie says she was a teacher at my school, gave me a right beating just for getting something wrong, not being bad...
Year or so later we're back same chapel at her dads funeral, Annie points out same nun and tells me same story, I say go have it out with her, she didn't...
Then getting back to what your on about, it was either coming up to Christmas or for the anniversary of her dads death Annie gets a letter from the same nun saying her dads name was going to be read out in chapel and inviting her and family to hear his name being read out,,, needless to say she didn't go,,, but why the name reading, oh I forgot these feckers (the church) make their living out of doom and gloom,,, deaths hard enough to get over, no need for someone ramming it down your throat every two minutes...
