I was wondering which forums people visit for advice when researching for holidays in other places or do they just book and hope for the best. Always used Holiday Truths for impartial advice and found it a fair site, have also used TA in the past but I find some of the reviews and postings on there suspect at times.

I just book and hope for the best.
I went to Cuba and the hotel I was staying in was getting very bad reviews on TA....the hotel ended up being brilliant.
Some people will moan over the slightest wee thing.
Apart from that I know what I'm getting in Tenerife,as I have been going to the same place for years,so I don't have to check reviews.

I join a forum pertaining to the area that I want to book. That's how I ended up here. I joined TF first, then TTF ( to get a wider opinion on Tenerife ), discovered that both were losing their mojo and followed the exodus to here. Simples innit!

I've been called something similar before. Strange cos it started with "c" and ended with"t" as well!

When did you go to Cuba CC? I've always wanted to go. I think it probably would be best to visit before the Castro brothers kick the bucket cos it will be all changed then. Did you see all the 1950's cars and the Latin buildings? What was the music like?

I can't see massive changes when Fidel and Raul die...the Cuban people don't want to go back to being a hideout for the super rich and mafia gangsters, like it was before the revolution,Socialism will still be about although slightly watered down maybe.
I t is hard to escape the music mate, hotels, bars on the street on the beach.
The cars are everywhere and it is like being in a 50's movie...a credit to them for still going.
The buildings are a bit dilapitated but there was a big regeneration programme going on when I was there in 2009.
I went to Plaza de Revolucion and up the big Jose Marti tower which looks over all Havana.
A great night was to the Castillo del Morro where Che Guevara based himself after victory in 59...the Army have a ceremonial display then the soldiers, men and women, start dancing and enjoying themselves...amazing.
Done the pub crawls as well.where various "stars" drank,Ernest Hemmingway and various others....actully the hotel I stayed in Hemmingway actually wrote the first few chapters of "For Whom the Bell Tolls".
We then went on to Varadero which after Havana was utterly boring.
A typicl all inclusive crowd with F all to do except drink....we went into the closet town to drink with the locals as the AI crowd were getting on my wick...I couldn't wait to leave that prison.
Hoping to get out for May day in 2014,but I'll do the two weeks in Havana.

You forgot about the one where you introduced yourself and only one silly bugger spoke to you.
I use TA, but I would never dream of looking on there for advice I just like to do my own thing have a nosy around the internet and see if I like the sound of the place if so - off we go.
Just been watching Sir Trev. do his Mississippi again, and saying we've been there, and there and there. The Lorraine Motel was interesting, they had obviously cleared away all the people that constantly hang around, and the old biddy that has been there for over 20 years claiming to not want a home, but she has a fab RV parked around the corner.
