I don't think there is one,
So what about having one to put down books we think other people might enjoy?
At the minute I am reading "A Basque History of The World" by Mark Kurlansky,a fascinating read about a fascinating people, who are unique from their blood type to their language...I hope to go there one day so highly recommended to learn a wee bit about their customs, food, politics and culture.

I think Blyth had a list of his 4 favourite books but I can't find the post. Blyth, would you stick them on this thread. I'll defo have a look at them.
If anyone wants an unputdownable book, try "The Grass Arena" by John Healy. Its about a wino in London whose life is turned around after learning to play chess in prison. He became Grand Master ability , won loads of international tournaments but the chess association refused to recognise him because of his background. Not sure if the book has been re-printed cos he threatened to kill the publisher Recommend a Book thread. 111348722

I have that many favourite books I would find it hard to pick four favourites.
"Strumpet City" would be up there..."Ragged trousered philanthropists" is another.
I don't read a lot of novels really... World history and politics mainly.
Last count I had over 1300 books in the back room.

    4 books mmmmm

4 novelist I could list but 4 books id struggle.

Looking for novels my top 4 tips for great reads are:
    Simon Kernick
    Alex Scarrow
    Andrew Goss
Howard Linskey (new entry 2 great Newcastle based crime thrillers)

Highly recommend Alex Scarrow 4 stunning stand alone thrillers, has entered the lucrative teen fantasy novel market recently with Time Raiders series haven't read them it his grown ups thrillers are superb.

Its a bit Like the Bible........sort of difference between a Thesaurus and a dictionary.
Actually probably a very good read, has anyone dared? My neighbours say what is said in the Kuran is exactly the opposite to what these extremists shout about.

Anybody ever read any of Anthony Beevors books?
I read "The Battle For Spain" and "Stalingrad"...first class reads,he has a lovely writing style which keeps it simple and gets to the facts instead of bogging the book down with irrelevant facts...one of the best historians about, especially concerning the Spanish Civil War.

I only read fiction generally crime or thrillers not into the Mills & Boon or Catherine Cookson type novels but OH has all of Antony Beevors books and while I hate wars and anything associated with them I have been tempted a couple of times to open The Mystery of Olga Chekhova
