Charming!! I can actually understand most Scottish accents ( takes me a while to tune into a heavy Glasga one though). Normally, I can work out what Scottish place names mean cos Scots Gaelic is just a dialect of the Irish language although it is set to become its own language over the next few hundred years. I can read Scots Gaelic ( for the most part) but your pronunciation of words ( spelt very similarly) is vastly different to ours.

The Irish equivalent to "kirk" would be "Kil" as in Kilkenny (Irish: Cill Chainnigh, meaning church of Cainnech).
