Just looked that up on the map Cam. I see there is a seperate canal for boats cos a yacht wont get under that bridge. Loch Ness and the Western Isles is on my to do list......One day.
there are 29 locks in total, 4 aquaducts and 10 bridges. 62 miles total. I wouldn't mind doing it myself but Mermaid doesn't like water.

First you have to put and secure boat in lock, have swig of beer. Then wife has to shut lock gates by pushing them, more beer. Wait for wife to get lock key, short swig. Wife undoes lock valves with said key, loads of time for beer now as we wait for lock to fill with water. Get wife to push open lock gates, thirsty work this. Start engine and untie boat, collect wife making sure she doesnt fall in and proceed to next pub/lock. 30 minutes for one lock then, or a couple of cans.
