The Lone Ranger wrote:Just booked a hotel for 3 days in March in Inverness for Mermaid's birthday. (Palace Hotel). It looks really nice and it overlooks the River Ness to Inverness castle. It's a spa as well so we can use the swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc. (Might even treat her to a beauty treatment doodah if she's nice).

Just looked that up on the map Cam. I see there is a seperate canal for boats cos a yacht wont get under that bridge. Loch Ness and the Western Isles is on my to do list......One day.

You're on about the Caledonian Canal Vince, goes roughly from Fort William on the west of Scotland through the Great Glen using Lochs Lochy, Oich and Ness on to Inverness and emerges on the Beauly Firth at Inverness on the East coast of Scotland. Main locks are at Corpach near Fort William, 8 of them nicknamed "Neptune's Staircase"..
What are you doing today?? - Page 24 9k= there are 29 locks in total, 4 aquaducts and 10 bridges. 62 miles total. I wouldn't mind doing it myself but Mermaid doesn't like water. What are you doing today?? - Page 24 3275847336

I recon that series of locks would take 3 or 4 hours, depends how quick your wife could be, if you shared going up so you only do one side maybe less, but you cant rush water, But i could be well wrong on that What are you doing today?? - Page 24 3275847336

I couldn't be arsed with that. After the first one or two I'd get bored. I'd be looking for a contour canal I think... What are you doing today?? - Page 24 1498946960

You silly land lubbers........ What are you doing today?? - Page 24 1498946960 First you have to put and secure boat in lock, have swig of beer. Then wife has to shut lock gates by pushing them, more beer. Wait for wife to get lock key, short swig. Wife undoes lock valves with said key, loads of time for beer now as we wait for lock to fill with water. Get wife to push open lock gates, thirsty work this. Start engine and untie boat, collect wife making sure she doesnt fall in and proceed to next pub/lock. 30 minutes for one lock then, or a couple of cans.
