    Winter Solstice. Empty Winter Solstice.

Post by Campbell Brodie Mon 17 Dec 2012 - 18:17

The winter solstice will occur on Friday 21st December this year. This is when the sun reaches it's most southerly declination of -23.5°. (In other words when the North pole is tilted at 23.5° away from the sun). This is the point in the Northern hemisphere where there will be the least amount of daylight this year. Good news is that it gradually gets lighter from here on in. (21/12/12 that is.)

11 mins past the eleventh hour the 13th Mayan calender ends. This is deemed by many as the end of the world as we know it. They also say all the planets will align on this day at this time and possibly cause some very bad effects to Earth. This could be Tsunami, Earthquake or complete destruction. See you all Saturday then.

Agree can't wait for those light nights, summer before we know it !

Thought the Mayan calender thing was purely down to them creating a date so far in the future that it was a random date.

It has no significance other than being so far in the distance it was just a date they picked.

Never been in to calendars, always felt they spoiled a well decorated wall, may have a look when I got nothing better to do...

That said anyone got any old Pirelli ones...
