Looks an expensive way to do it, when they extended the Metro system (tram) in Manchester, they had to go under the ring road, two lanes each way, plus it was twin rail track going under it, never broke the surface of the road, one lane was shut at a time as they tunnelled under it...
Whole projects pie in the sky anyway, much like the Edinburgh tram system...

So you'll be glad to refund the taxpayer the difference on your subsidised rail ticket...

Free bus to station [1mile] free train to Gala, free lift to Clovenfords, wonder if refreshments will be free on the train?

The extract is the last paragraph of the article:-
"In 2013 concerns were raised that the project was no longer economically viable due to the failure of a local property boom, which meant a large drop in projected passenger numbers. A business case by consultants Ernst & Young said the pure economic spin-off would amount to only half of the return on the current estimated outlay of £350m. However, Transport Scotland insisted the project remained on course to generate benefits of up to 30% greater than overall costs."
An 80% difference of opinion...
Now if I was a betting man..........

Free trains for pensioners? Since when? Nearest bus stop is 6 miles from me so I'll get bugger all anyway. Maybe summer in Scotland and winter in Tenerife then. Nice sailing in Scotland innit.

Yip free everything in Scotland, if King Alex gets the vote first thing he's gonna do is build a big factory, he going to call it "The Mint", so he can print the stuff...

I live in a very happy little world, it's political twats wasting my money that pisses me off...
HS2, borders rail line, second forth crossing, Edinburgh tram system, may as well chuck this one in as well, the Leeds tram system, they're either not required or ain't good value for the money spent...
How much we wasting on this independence thing, arghhh, don't get me started...

Might as well get these projects out of the way now. That way Scotland will have new trains/trams for nothing when it goes it alone. simples innit!
