This is what has happened. As you can see in image 1, none of the files have names under them, although if you look at the sidebar they are named and if I click on a folder to rename, the name is already there. Now if I go into a file, see picture 2 everything is as I would expect with all the file names showing!! Any ideas how to get the My Documents back the way it was? I have already gone back to a previous date, but that didn´t work.

Today I used Google Drive to back up all my files on my laptop. Seems to work well, but I think I may have clicked something while I was doing the upload and I don't know how to get it back. I know this question is mainly directed at McQueen but if anyone else has any ideas.

Don´t understand what you mean TD, I am using Vista but I can see all the documents, just not the names and it is only in 'My Document' everything else is fine.

Problem Solved!!
If it happens to you and I don´t know what I did to get there in the first place.
a) go to a folder that is set up the way you want it. (see those in image 2 above)
b) select from the menu bar Organise, then Folder and Search Option.
c) from the tabs choose View and then Apply to all folders.
Job done.

Can I ask why use a third party storage why not buy a external hard drive (dirt cheap these days) and back up to that, then you don't rely on breeding an internet connection to retrieve your own files, far far safer
Just my opinion

I agree and would do that for ordinary files, it was just a way to keep stuff I have for my blogs. I get ideas, start working on them, go away for a while, do a bit more, so they change quite a bit so thought I could use it to save updated versions as I go and then once finished and published I delete. Just being lazy really couldn´t be bothered finding the correct memory stick, cleaning up and adding a new version.3rdforum wrote:Took the words out of my mouth Blyth!Blyth Spirit wrote:Can I ask why use a third party storage why not buy a external hard drive (dirt cheap these days) and back up to that, then you don't rely on breeding an internet connection to retrieve your own files, far far safer

Or just write it down on a piece of paper and stick it in a drawer...Blyth Spirit wrote:Can I ask why use a third party storage why not buy a external hard drive (dirt cheap these days) and back up to that, then you don't rely on breeding an internet connection to retrieve your own files, far far safer

I have 1 Tb of external hard drive and leave it plugged in all the time. I load everything on to it bar the os. If you save a file and then make changes, you can automatically update the original rather than adding a new version ( though you prob know that already and I have got the wrong end of the stick).Gypsy wrote:I agree and would do that for ordinary files, it was just a way to keep stuff I have for my blogs.
