Well they are obviously following you because we have just received an abuse report stating they are taking action against both you and the forum.  Not sure what the forum has done to upset them so we will just wait and see.   DRIVING LIICENCES - THE FACTS - Page 2 3275847336

GOT THIS FROM DVLA ...AS YIU NOTICE THEY REFER TO GB LICENCE WHICH IS CORRECT,AS NI HAS ITS OWN LICENCES ,,,,SO ANY EMAIL FROM DLVA SAYING ´´UK´´
If you intend driving when visiting another country, it's important that you understand what is required of you. As a visitor to another country you'll need your Great Britain (GB) driving licence. An international driving permit is also required in certain countries that are not part of the European Community.
    Before you go, make sure:

    • the details on your driving licence are up to date
    • you take your driving licence with you. If you have a photocard licence, you must take your paper counterpart licence with you as well as the photocard

You may use your GB licence for driving in other European Community/European Economic Area (EC/EEA) member states. However, you should note that while the minimum age for driving a car in GB is 17, individual member states may apply their own age restrictions for entitlements. Please check with the countries concerned.
Check with a motoring organisation if you want to drive in a non-EC/EEA country. They will advise you whether you need an International Driving Permit.
    International Driving Permit
An international driving permit (IDP) is a formal document issued to visitors to another country which translates details of a driving licence into several languages, enabling foreign authorities to interpret the driving entitlements held, their validity periods and the identity of the holder. These are issued by the Automobile Association (The AA), Royal Automobile Club (RAC), and RSAC
To get an IDP, you must be resident in GB, have passed a driving test and be over 18 years of age. The fee for a permit is £5.50.
Any enquiries about IDPs e.g. 'How to apply?' should be directed to one of the motoring organisations listed above.
Please be aware that the moped entitlement given in the UK (category P) is a "national" entitlement and may not allow you to ride mopeds in another country.

Ok I think this is a minefield anyway because the police and authorities here and in UK will do as they please. I also feel that this should not be a forum where we slate other companies no matter what any of us feels about them. Yes we can have opinions and state things but not get in to legal slanging matches which I feel this has become. It is fine to make points and to state a personal experience but I do not think we should be involved in this type of put down. I see Paul's point that if the license issue is not so then people do not need to but until proof of either side I feel it should not be discussed here. I leave a decision on this to the Mods and Admin. Cheers

Paul, it was me to whom you said the thread could be deleted - I personally did not see any point, just because an abuse report had been registered, let's face it we have had hundreds of those so the saying water and ducks back come to mind.

Anyway whether the others decide to delete the thread or not, I would just like to copy this that was posted on Facebook yesterday.   For those who are members there is a link HERE where you can see other comments, but as some of you aren´t members here is the opening post which is interesting.

    UK Driving License Update

    For those interested...

The confusion seems to be around the section 4b (which shows the date the photocard must be renewed)

Here's what happened, no embellishments, nothing invented and all my direct experience:

On the 12th March 2014 I had both my car and my photocard license taken from me. The car, under house arrest as the Policía Local were kind enough to let me park it on private land.

I visited the DGT as instructed, paid the 200 Euro fine (reduced to 100 Euros for early payment) and handed over the paperwork necessary for them to communicate with the DVLA and verify what I was entitled to drive.

Today I returned to the DGT who quite embarrassingly for them informed me that I could have my license back or exchange it for a Spanish one. I chose to take back my UK license. In addition, they will be returning the 100 Euro fine I paid.

    Now, herein lies the rub:

I was informed that under the European Directive 2006/126/EC as a EU citizen I am entitled to drive using my UK license anywhere in the EU.

They did inform me however that this may possibly change in January 2015. How, why and the rest I have yet to find out.

Now interestingly, being the techie geek I am, I am taking the time to read the directive and nowhere does it say that I "have to" change my license. It is recommended but nowhere should it be enforced. Moreover, it's the license holder's choice.

I think the following comment makes the point quite clear.

I don't see what's confusing about this. If you live in the UK then your UK licence is valid in the EU. Of course, if you live part-time in both places and have 'legitimate' addresses in both places then the situation may be less clear but if you live here and don't have a valid UK address, you need a Spanish licence.

This is why we have Admin and Mods, to make the choice. I am ok with anyones opinions and facts but lets not get in to a stage where others businesses are being named, it is up to people to decide and work out their own minds, this is for anything. Fact is we also do not want to lose face as a forum for this, I appreciate there are some good facts, but also understand feuds can start.
