We went there last time out, lovely food and great service. Free drink after was real booze, girls had Tia Maria's on ice and boys got a Remy.Gypsy wrote:Not been in long from the 4 Corners restaurant in San Miguel 3 people, bottle wine, 3 soft drinks, starters, mains and coffee €64 fab place didn´t even know it was there and must have passed it a thousand times.

I could also have been squashed in amongst a load of Brits, sat outside or if I wanted inside the only table next to the toilets and had to put up with the miserable old guy who looks after the queue of people always lined up against the wall. Last time I was at the Gran Paella I walked out and went to the brothers place a couple of doors down Vista Mar which is same food, same price but a really nice setting on a balcony overlooking the sea.

Oh yes we have struggled both when kids were younger and certainly when I was young. Lived in Nan's house, where I was born with Mum, Dad, Brother, Nan, Gramps, 9 uncles and 5 Aunts, 3 bed council house.cunningham wrote:must be nice when money is no object.i bet you never had to make one tea bag last all day between two of you.Topdog wrote:don't like Grand Paelle cheap and nasty, better aloft.
Dad was a striking docker for years, not through his choice he wanted to work and pay his way, had pride.
Us no holiday until kids were7, 8 and 10, we had to put all kids in one room and students for 4 months with us living in the lounge to get 1 week at Haven.
Just worked and worked all hours 4 jobs sometimes Howard, until such a time as we could save a bit, have nothing owed and all sorted. Wouldn't say money is no object as not in the rich stakes just comfortable and now like some finer things especially on holiday. I still work 48 hours a week, plus look after our business interest and do our caring for the boys, holidays are at present hard to reach so spend well when there.

Re: Cuatro Esquinas (4 corners)
3 days on and 4 days off, apart from holidays. Actual time spent fighting fires per week? (to be fair, complete guess) 4? No wonder you're an ace with that snooker cue....... On a more serious side one of my kids, yes it was Freddie, once decided it would be fun to set fire to his toy box in his bedroom. Anyway by the time I discovered it all the curtains and carpet was well alight and blinding smoke everywhere. I could see the major problem was the toy box which was just under the window so I kicked the entire window out, wooden at the time, grabbed toy box and chucked it out burning my hands in the process. In the mean time Patsy had rung 999 and they turned up in probably less than 10 minutes, not a full time fire station, but by then I had put the fire out pretty much. Anyway basically some of us talk the talk and some walk the walk. Me? I would think somewhere in between. He probably wont but I bet Howard could tell some tales.....

Re: Cuatro Esquinas (4 corners)
What the feck has this got to do with restaurants? Just to bring it back on topic Gypsy, could you tell us more about the Guarchinches (sp?). eg where are the ones you have been to and how good, or bad, they were. Being virtually potless and even meaner the concept interests me, haha. Actually between the lot of us I'm pretty sure we could do a fairly comprehensive review. Oh dear, this idea may get nicked. Anyway, worth a thought, and maybe eventually its own thread.

Howard we had an outside loo, did not get an insider until we moved to a tiny 2 bed council house in 60's, so I only remember bit of it.
How about that Thread on the reviews, we could hit that hard between us, think Gypsy would have biggest imput.

Re: Cuatro Esquinas (4 corners)
absolutely nob all to do with restaurants. it was february 1962 when we got an inside toilet, my dad got an house with his job.it was a realy bad winter that year,in fact it had two inside toilets we thought it was wonderful.yes i have been known to tell the odd tale about the f b.i dont know about mum having the biggest input, i have been quite worried about her of late, she seems to be having more frequent and prolonged senior moments . she has been recently logging off here and wandering off elsewhere,i keep having to assist her back here,no pleasure in getting old eh? have a nice day allTopdog wrote:

That is true son, REVIEW but a restaurant is only as good as it's last meal and we didn´t get a meal the last time we went to Gran Paella Valencia because we waited so long after asking for drinks 3 times and still being ignored we walked. I have heard similar tales on TripAdviser so I don´t think it was just me being unreasonable.

Vince I have eaten in a couple, of Guachinches - this one in Vera de Erques (on the way to Los Gigantes)
and this one at Ifonche (Arona)
I really must write something on them but I don´t fully understand them as yet, other than knowing they are in many cases attached to vineyards and in sheds, garages etc and were originally used so that locals could try out the new wines. The owner then started offering home-made food. You have to look them out because they really are rough and ready but IMO that is half the fun.
