    What will happen if the spread of ultra nationalistic Islamist governments spread from the middle east to North Africa? Long way around Africa to get to / receive goods from the likes of China??

    Even Russia won't let them away with controlling the canal. They have a Black Sea fleet which comes through the Dardanelles and into the Med and then through Suez to get to the Indian Ocean...

    They have a huge base in Syria as well. One of the reasons why Putin is sticking his nose in over there
