Nope. We were shot at a few times but we never saw them. It was usually a case of one shot and they were off. One of our full screws got hit in the arm on our first tour. A sniper had lain under a hedge waiting for the section to cross a road junction. This is when the section is at it's most vulnerable. There are only 4 men in a section and there is a prescribed way to cross a junction so every road has a pair of eyes looking down it, it's not just saunter across looking every which way. Anyhoo, they couldn't see the sniper, he fired his one shot, we picked up the single spent case later where he had lain, and then he hot footed it out.

Re: Derry. 1976...
AD = "Accidental Discharge". When some loony lets off a round after thinking his rifle wasn't loaded.
Saw it a few times, mostly when we were in the unloading bays. That's where a corporal or sergeant physically check there are no rounds in the chamber when you come off patrol and unload.

Rough old part of town down there , old Woodburn where the original "locals" lived when us folks from "through the west" arrived I'm sure Sorly Bean came from there, you would last about 2 minutes there Adam

If I lived within fifty miles of where you currently live I would consider getting out quickly, but noticed the local cricket team had a good day today
