I feel desperately sorry for the parents, but how would they feel in 20 years time when he had undertaken treatment (that is experimental) and it had failed.  Who would look after him, what if they had other children, would NHS be expected to treat indefinitely.  Sometimes you have to forget your own feelings and just take the tough option.

What Gypsy says makes total sense but I think if I was in their position I would probably do the same. And when it was all over, someone give me an injection to put me gently to sleep permanently :-((

It has been a long ordeal for them but I can understand why they have done it. If I had been them I would have fought as well. .

Thought a lot before I started this thread, a very sad affair...

    So why did I.

Me and Annie watching news about two weeks back, was when courts had agreed with hospital it was a lost cause but an American doctor thought he had an answer...

Annie says to me what do you think, I say pull the plug,,, she calls me a murderer,,, I say no, the kid is brain damaged, blind, can't move, can't feed, I say a machine is keeping the kid alive, no one is sticking a knife in the kid killing it, it's not murder,,, she disagrees and asks what would I do if it was my kid, I say pull the plug,,, even bigger argument now, me arguing the kid has no life even with ongoing experimental medicine,,, I'm still being called a murderer...

I relay this to her, my first marriage, sons born many weeks premature, little yellow thing in a fish tank he was, doctor pulls me aside soon after birth and says to me don't leave the hospital, I knew with the look on his face what he meant,,, wife gets out of hospital a few days after birth, son doesn't, we lived for day/weeks wondering what outcome would be, he got out of hospital after about three weeks, 100% OK...

Annie says what would you have done if he'd been brain damaged, I said pull the plug,,, I'm called a murderer again,,, What life would there have been for my son, tubes in and out of him as he had in incubator for the rest of what sort of life, and the torment for the parents...

We, me and Annie still disagree on this one as the TV case still goes on,,, please do not think I have no feelings for those involved but if it was not for very hi-tec medical kit this baby would be long gone...

Often thought what would i do if the family had a severely disabled child on the team,
I see parents pushing teenagers about and also grown ups with brain damage the parents lives fecked also, I like to think i would dispose of the problem but once a child is in your head and the genes take over then your pretty much screwed and you have to live with it, Charlie Gard... 3913804730

After seeing this picture on BBC news I think so, they go to court to get a ruling to let the baby die with dignity, then they do this...

My mates daughter in cot wraps Venetian Blind cord around neck, dead, me and wife didn't go to funeral, my call, I felt very much a close family affair, mate held it against me, we discussed it a few times later, allways disagreed, lost touch now but last time I saw him approx 20 years ago he was a mess, alcoholic, don't know if he's alive today, his wife another mates sister, hard working, good bank job, who I really fancied in my youth but done nothing cos she's my mates sister, but last time I saw them she's working her tits off to keep family surviving, I'll admit mate was a bit of a piss head before kids death, but lost of kid compleatly made him lose it...

As I said on f/b it is good to hear the facts rather than base judgement purely on feelings.  This makes very interesting reading.  Charlie Gard - Facts

This was in Manchester news yesterday, BBC article has changed a bit since yesterday, yesterday in went in to how much charities give of monies collected to actual charity, if I recall correctly on average it was something like 85%, a lot higher that I thought, sure I've read it was a lot lower elsewhere,,, but this charity returned approx 5% a year on a £1 million turnover, the rest went on, rent, wages advertising etc,,, "Wages", that's bussines not charity...
I'm not a charity believer, said it before on here,,,, we are a rich country but spend our money on the wrong causes...
On above case I probably think they just didn't know what they were doing, but if I was to do any thing for charity I don't think I'd expect to get paid for it...
