You're in Fife there Carol, that's where me amd Mermaid live! Beatiful part of the country there with all the wee fishing villages. Did you ever wonder why there are so many red pantile slated roofs in those villages? It's because back in the day all those little harbours and ports were part of the Hanseatic League trading in the Baltic sea ports and once they had dropped their cargo off, if they ever came home without a return cargo they filled the hold with those red pantiled slates for ballast. Vince knows all about the importance of ballast! And that's why the wee houses have all those red roofs. Exceedingly informative forum this...
