I'm going to the Lake District in September for a week Reg, what places are best to visit?

Well if your spending money all day then Ambleside, me personally i like Coniston, nip in the Bluebird cafe then jump on the launch for a once around the lake taking in the trip around the big house on the other side (cant remember its name) or the old smart arse old bloke was, Arthur Ramscome maybe and see how the other half lived years ago, bearing in mind what transport was available then,like a trip to London would be a 2 day job in a horse and carriage, look at the old boat houses while going round, then maybe a drive up to Honister slate mine, interesting story about the last owner who fought the planners for a zip wire from the top down to the bottom, just before the last planning meeting he killed him self flying his helicopter in the fog, they made a tv documentory about him, the drive up is a bit of a bit of a white knuckle ride tho, also drive back around  the lake then take the ferry over Windermere then around to Kirkstone pass to Ulswater and have a trip on that boat, i could go on

Nah just spent a lot of time there, give me a  pad with a boat house on the lake with my own steamboat i would be a happy man, well more happy than i am
