When I was involved in the UK fishing industry some 40 years ago there was no waste disposal system on the boats, everything just went over the side,,, supplies for 14 of a crew to last 14 days came on board at the start of every trip packaged in tin cans, glass jars and paper,,, plastic packaging and bottles wasn't around back then, the tin cans would eventual rust away in the sea as would the paper break up, but there must be a lot of glass jars/bottles still lying around he bottom of the sea...
