I used to have trailers have their landing legs sink in to soft ground regular,,, just part of every day life,,, you park them up, grounds hard and dry,,, it rains for a few days,,, oops...

Surely to feck a Chinook can lift itself out of soft mud?

Shake itself to bits probably. You can lose your boots in 4" of mud, causes suction.
