Scottish Independence
Well Cam, what way are you going to vote? If Cameron gets his way, it will happen this year.

Re: Scottish Independence
My Scottish friends are 110% AGAINST Independence, they like having the best of everything (their words not mine). They reckon they will be a lot worse of if they should be independent.

Re: Scottish Independence
Sorry D. I was in bed last night when you asked. I don't honestly know which way I'll vote yet, but Alex Salmond will do it at a time that suits him, not David Cameron. It doesn't really matter anyway, Salmond will want the oil money and Westminster won't give it. Simples. That's actually what Cameron is afraid off. If Scotland did get independence, nearly all the oil and gas fields would be in Scottish territorial waters. That's why he wants the referendum now and not in 2014 when there will be a huge wave of Scottish patriotism because of the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn.

Re: Scottish Independence
From what you can gather Cam,what way would a vote go?
I Believe independence would'nt make a blind bit of difference to the working person to be honest, the rich and the powers that be will still exploit the poor.
Just look at Ireland for christs sake,Independence my arse!
It was on RTE news tonight that Capitol Hill was putting severe pressure on the Dail not to be to harsh on the bond holders.
In this day of rampant capitalism independence only means the accent of the person robbing you will be the same as your own.
A great Scots-Irish man born in Edinburgh once said:"Until you set about the establishment of a true Republic, which considers the well being of the worker paramount, then England will still rule you through her bankers, financiers and landlords".
Although he wrote it over 100 years ago it still rings through to the present day.

Re: Scottish Independence
I think I'll probably vote to stay in the Union, but that's because I'm frightened of the unknown. I don't like change, I'm a creature of habit and routine. I like to know what's happening and I've never liked feckin' surprises!

Do Scottish people feel that they are equals in the Union because tbh, from an outsiders point of view, I've always thought of England as being the dominant partner.

Re: Scottish Independence
What way will I vote ???
Well it would be “no” if I was entitled to vote.
Scottish/British, lived there most of my life but currently south of the border, therefore no vote for me, as in not entitled!!!
If I had the right to vote, why “no”...
One reason, Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly etc, expensive talking shops, guanos for want of a better word, the Westminster Parliament did let down the outer regions, but that should have been taken care of their without the need for sub division.
The main reason for “no”, once voted SNP in my youth, the vote Salmond is looking for from the 16/17 year old “Bravehearts” he now wishes to recruit. Was at a fundraising folk night in aid of the SNP many years ago, at the table next to us was a young and upcoming member of the SNP party who went on to become a major figure within the organisation. I could not believe the conversation I was overhearing coming from the group at said table, they were discussing the use of terrorism to forward the cause as per the Irish situation which was still relevant at the time.
Never voted SNP again.
Still wave the flag though.

No, decided not to do that, prefer to remain inconspicuous, thought it may influence open discussion...

Just noticed I failed to copy over last line of above post, should have read:-
Never go to war unless you have the ammunition to win.....
Does Salmond actually think he can win ! Does he want to !!! Or is he just appeasing his following by carrying through what he said he would do.....

Re: Scottish Independence
He's not everyone's cup of tea but he can be quite funny. Alex Salmond referring to the Conservatives recently said " There are more pandas in Scotland than Tory MPs!"
Haha! Ping Pong and Wigwam have out-numbered the tories!
