WWII pill box in LC ?

Me and a mate at work were chatting about our recent holidays in Tenerife, they returned to LC for 1st time in 4/5 years having had a timeshare which they lost and had not been back since.

He asked if we had ever come across the WWII gun box in LC, he hadn't but was once given directions to somewhere and they mentioned it as a directional landmark he thoight we must know it having been there so often on our jollies but I haven't seen it unless I've walked straight past it without paying attention.

Anybody know of it ?

There's three apparently - but I've never seen them in 30 odd years .....

Around the time of World War II, a number of fortifications, at least 3 small bunkers were built along the Los Cristianos Coastline, possibly as defences against a planned British invasion.[3]. During World War II Spain was officially neutral, but considered Axis friendly as the Nazis had financed the fascist victory in the Spanish Civil War. Some of these fortifications remain intact today.

I guess so because Andy mentioned them here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and she only started writing for this website about 18 months ago.

Then I saw this photo [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Can't copy the photo so click on the link. I think that looks more like Las Americas than Los Cris. I would say somewhere near the casino if pushed.

This has really got me stumped. Have a look at this map [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I thought it looked like somewhere along D5 or D6, are you guys saying it looks more Fañabe, C3. ??

Its definitely in D5 overlooking Playa bobo

OK! now I sort of know where it is - asked my friend who wrote about it because this is really bugging me. Although it is a long time ago they said it is in the residential area above the harbour and there are lots of buildings around it and unless you were specifically looking for it you could walk past without noticing (feel a bit better now for not spotting it). He is going to try and dig out a photo to see if we can pinpoint it a bit more.

But the other photo I found certainly looked like Las Americas

Do I get anything for getting forum on page 1 of google sure someone mentioned a prize.

Gutted if it is on the pathway to puerto colon, did that walk twice before Xmas, certainly the same flag stones and hand rail as there might have to be a bit more observant next time.

Thinking back to the 40's they would only build it on a sticky out bit, Cant imagine there being anything else around it,
Plus it would be high up.

Thats the very place Blyth Spirit, as you walk past, the "slot " is about 6 ft above the pathway.

Lesson learnt !!! Always start close to home. OH has just come home and I asked him do you know anything about pill boxes in Los Cris. Not Los Cris says he, but we saw one near our Administrators office in Las Americas it's on the walkway near Pueblo Canario !!! Well bugger me, we were right. Just need to find the others now - whose up for the challenge?

It is by the Pueblo Canario complex just below Rani Tandoori. Bit further up from Puerto Colon.

Nope, its south of puerto colon by about 3/4 of a mile.

Seen enough pill boxes on the french coast, Massive some of them, I sat near one on a summers day, Trying to imagine what had gone on in front of it, D day and all that, We drove up the coast road, I said to Janet think of the 18 year olds all kitted up trudging up this road, All piss wet through after the landing, Dosent bear thinking about,

So it would seem that OH & Vince have located one - the descriptions are too similar to be anywhere else.

If you look at the photos on Google earth you can see it. Rani Tandoori can be seen in the background on one of them. Think OP said there were a few about anyway.

Seen picture now its basically behind the seats we take a breather on looking out to sea.

At the risk of becoming a sort of train spotter I will keep my eyes skinned for more, There must be loads all round Tenerife then. I have a feeling there may be one just past el Medano Harbour.

I have seen the D-day landing beaches from airplanes! haha. Coast is a brill programme. Worth everybody elses licence fee......
