THE annual Jorvik Viking Festival swung into action with a skirmish in York city centre.


Viking characters wearing battle attire took over Coppergate to help
start the popular festival, which is expected to attract 40,000 people.


This year marks the 27th festival and will feature more than 80 events
culminating in a ferocious battle before the Festival Of Fire climax
featuring fire jugglers, a firework display and the
burning of a 60ft-longship on Bustardthorpe Field at York Racecourse
on Saturday.

Vikings are the indigenous people of York ,thought we did have an influx of Italians some years ago.

The term you refer to is a southern one and too us would refer to coarse fishing - we just call them for what they are .

Do some of them (I'm thinking of the Italian ones) have ice cream shops. I could murder a knickerbocker glory

They used too have but shut down after Julius Caesar left i think

Even Capaldi's has shut down .

Looks like "Topman" is going to get burnt to the ground...

More like handbags at twenty paces.This lot where actors more akin to Dorothy Perkins.

We didn't go in to the Jorvik center when we were there as the queue was round the block. I can't do queues....Pity, I'd liked to have went in.
