Our vets of 10 years + has been forced to close down at extrememly short notice due to there bank bottling it, i.e. the current econonic climate excuse.
There buidling lies withn the next phase of the towns regeneration area (supermarket expansion into one of the covered walkway mall type things).
They were served CPO by the county council a couple of years back and are the only ship left open in that block that will become the new car park (shocking that such old buildings will be knocked down for a car park but some are in dire states).
Anyway our vets had finally found a new location submitted planning for land & build of purpose built new practise with parking in a great location, all sorted builders ready to start in a matters of weeks there monthly newsletter stated it was literally a matter of signing on the dotted line and the builders would in a start matter of weeks.
This week the owners recieved a call from there bank (yes one of the publicaly owned ones) to attend a meeting ASAP, outcome being that due to current financial situation with the economy the bank were withdrawing all support for the new building and the business loan for the practise no longer stood they were foreclosing on them and have/had less than a week to vacate the building as the supermarket now owned the land outright and wanted them out prompt.
Now it wasn't a loan to keep them a float but your general everyday business type arrangement, they were the most popular vets in Blyth 6,000+ animals on there books and was doing a roaring trade on the back of being the friendliest & most popular vets in the town.
10 people have lost there jobs and they have effectivavly ceased trading and had to close.
They were the only one of 3 vets in the town to stay open past 5pm and open 9-3 on a Saturday, so for us workers it was ideal.
Now we are going to have to travel to Cramlington 10 minutes away to one of these Pets at Home superstores with a vets inside because its the nearest that stays open past 5pm !.
Rumours now doing the rounds that the actual owners of the practise may have passed over a offer of premises and funding help to relocate because the 'settlement' of the CPO meant if no relocation was meet then a 'package' was in place.
Proper mess that has left superb caring 10 people are out of work and 6,000+ animals needing a new vet.
Really sad as you build up a bond with your vet and they were superb in handling our Penny & Molly when those 2 sad days arrived, there care & attention not only for Penny & Molly but towards us was excellent sending us cards & calling to ask how we were.
They held events for the comunity like raffles sponsored walks they were a proper local vets that people out of Blyth travelled to because of there reputation, offered a instant walkin as well none of this ring up for appointment malarky.
Our cats are no bother, but Poppy has a rare eye condition that needs drops every morning & night and regular check up's after a year attending a specialist eye vet they allowed our vets to carry out the check up's on there behalf.
Hope the staff all get sorted for jobs they would grace any vets.
