Because of the uncertainty of when the road will open again due to unstable hillsides above the road, it seems road traffic may be allowed to use the railway lines between scheduled train services. Rubber mats are being fitted to enable the traffic to run over the rails. (No, it's not April 1st!)

Wow, that brings back some great memories Cam.
We used to ride our fully loaded BMW tourer over The Bealach na Ba nearby.
Brown pants ? - yes, every time !

Been over that pass loads of times Jimbo. Exciting innit! The view back down to Loch Kishorn is great, then the views over to Raasay and Skye are stunning!
My favourite part of Scotland round that way.

Me too.
You probably know this already Cam but .....
The A87 from Invergarry to the Kyle is quite a famous road for bikers. Perfect road surface, every bend is banked and just around every corner there is yet more stunning scenery. Not sure about present day, but there weren't any speed camera's either.
A load of us used to stay in a B + B ( The Craigard http://g.co/maps/5h7p9 )at Invergarry and have been known to ride that stretch of road maybe a dozen times on the same day.
Don't think I've got the balls for it anymore though.

Stunning scenery along there Jim...5 sisters of Kintail, Loch Cluanie, GlenShiel, Loch Dhuie and Loch Alsh and of course Eilean Donan castle!
Nowadays you have the superb Skye bridge (I haven't been on it yet.) I think the mystery and romance of the Isle of Skye was diminished when the ferries were no longer the only means of getting to the island. Don't suppose the locals care about that though!

More chance of running in to a haggis on that line than a train, timetable:-
As of December 2008 service enhancements have meant the introduction of four daily trains all year round, Monday - Saturday.

You should see it in the rush-hour...I've seen up to 3 people standing on the Achnasheen platform waiting for the "Kyle express"!
