Re: Northern Ireland
That bomb was abandoned five minutes walk from me....the area it was left I regularly walk along with the dogs.
The people who left this are a minority and have very little support throughout Ireland, and have put forward no alternative apart from militant nationalism which would drag us all back into a cycle of madness again.
Although not a big fan of the present situation in the north,it is preferable to what these neanderthals want.
These fools seem to forget there are 2 million unionists who wish the present status quo to remain, and without their appeasement a united Ireland is impossible...starting a bombing campaign will only isolate them further...but logic is not a strong point for these people it seems.

To be sure.
Are these the ones that chuck the pin and keep the grenade, hopefully.

Just a tad too close to the border for my liking. Mind you, it could have been Crossmaglen!

Re: Northern Ireland
Why would they be planting bombs in Nationalist areas? No logic to it. Surely, it will just alienate them even further?? Its estimated that these "dissidents" number less than fifty. They can feck off for themselves. I'm all for a united Ireland but don't they dare to claim that their actions are in my name. Wankers

Re: Northern Ireland
There's no more trouble in Newry than any other part of Ireland Cam. I'm up there a couple of times a year and the only trouble I've had was queueing for the bar. In fact, the whole border region is now trouble free. This country is a far different place than the one that the rest of the world saw on the evening news 25 years ago.
With regards to Crossmaglen, my sister in law lives about 10 miles away. Again, no trouble but you would soon realise you were in a republican heartland. I've gone out there with my cousin ( Englishman ) and the slagging was unbelievable. We had a great night out

I felt safer in Eire when I was on holiday, than I ever did in the North in the 70s.

Probably helped that you weren't wearing a British Army uniform this time round! Seriously though, I have never felt unsafe in the north though I have to say, I stayed well clear of the shankhill road.

That's true! I just worked out you were 3 years old when I was patrolling the streets of Derry...

Re: Northern Ireland
Just reading an update on that bomb in Newry. It was 600lbs! They must have been going after a substantial structure. Apparently anyone within 50m would be dead and anyone within 100m would be seriously injured. Wankers.

Re: Northern Ireland
The PSNI reckon it was for an attack against them or one of their barracks.

Re: Northern Ireland
I'm open to correction on this but I think that's across the water from where the Warrenpoint bomb killed 18 soldiers in 1979.
