The apartments we are staying in don't have aircon but on enquiring, I was told that the bedrooms are situated to the rear of the building which doesn't get the sun at all. As the terrace at the front of the apartment gets all day sun, I'm thinking about hiring a portable aircon unit. Would any of you have an opinion as to whether this is necessary? Also, have any of you used a portable aircon unit before and if so are they troublesome i.e. noisey etc?

I don´t have air con. I don´t think Cru has it either. I have never felt the need. Even in a Calima the most we use is a ceiling fan. We are further up the mountain than the resort so in the winter it is cooler but in the summer it is hotter and the fans are enough. Close the curtains during the day (leave the windows open - if you want) but it should be fine. Don´t forget if you decide to use one to get a proper air CON and not an air cooler as these need water so you will end up with puddles.

We went in august last year and we needed it, But also we are not use to it being hot, Plus the sun was on the apartment all day so it was well warm, I dont know about portable ones,

Have say on our last 2 December holidays we've needed the ceiling fan on in the bedroom at night of course we're hot in the bedroom stakes !!! but it was needed to sleep comfortably.
