The refinery in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 2011 has cut the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 23 percent. In a press conference, its director, Salvador Garcia, stated that air quality meets all the legal parameters and also includes taking into account the impact of road traffic, which is concentrated near the refinery.

In 2011, monitoring of air emission sources was expanded and sulfur dioxide fell by 10 percent. The refinery also has minimized the impact of reinstating the production process of waste industrial oils (29,000 tonnes) and waste oil from ships (90,000 tons).
