Forest Fire in the North of the Island.

This started last night in the El Tanque area and by 5.00am they thought it was under control. A couple of hours ago, it all started again.

In a 1pm press conference, President of the Tenerife told reporters that the Fire which in the North West of Tenerife yesterday evening now has an active front at La Charca spanning 6k and has affected 90 hectares.

Officials are calling for calm and ask that the public stay away from the mountainous areas of the island.

A further 200 people have been evacuated from their homes in San José de Los Llanos
Orange Alert for temperatures as high as 40c

Titsa announce bus 355 can only travel between Buenavista and Masca. the 460 service between Icod and Las Americas is suspended

The public are being asked to avoid driving in the north-west area of the island

Update 2pm.

Guardia Civil report the TF-436 is closed from the Las Portelas exit to Masca and el Mesón del Norte; and from Santiago del Teide to Erjos.

Maybe - but it is also very hot here 34C in the shade on my patio, the higher up the mountains you go the hotter it gets. Must be at least 40 in the sun up there and it only takes the slightest thing to start a fire because it has been so dry for so long.

We only went up as far as Taucho the other day and it was stonking. I reckon a good 6 or7 deg hotter than the resort, which was recording 33.

We met them at beach bar with Linda/Pete and Gypsy and OH. Very nice time too.

Have they got any worse today on Tenerife and La Gomera, does anyone know?

Tenerife is fine, but my mate Jack has been on BBC Int News and his wife Andy is on tomorrow, I didn´t see it you guys may have done.


La Gomera several thousand people evacuated by ferry at 4.00am this morning and no signs that it is anywhere near being under control. This is what Pete Jay of News in the Sun says

Just seen this article in the Daily Mail Bloody scaremonger tactics if you are on holiday you probably won´t have a clue there are any fires anywhere.

Luckily they only have the Sun in most bars. Daily Mail is for those that THINK they are intelligent.

It is not in the tourist areas thank goodness but People should know what is happening. Alicante is suffering with fires also.
