    I had an email from PS today who sent me this link. Interesting, I did now about the dogs but I didn´t know about Juba Who Named The Canary Islands

    It was actually Pliny the Elder who said Juba named Gran Canaria "Canaria" because of the multitude of dogs there. The rest of the archipelago took there name from this. Wiki
    See Etymology chapter. There are other just as plausible reasons mentioned so I guess we'll never know for sure.
