The work in the Plaza Espana in Adeje, by architect Fernando Menis, was the winner of the fifth edition of the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in the category New and Old, competing against countries such as China, United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Estonia, Switzerland, Singapore, Slovenia, New Zealand and Canada.
This festival is the most important in its field and is a showcase of architectural excellence in the world.
This is the second time that this architectural firm, based in Canary Islands has won this international award, and in 2010 the WAF jury awarded the prize in the category of Future Cultural Projects for work in the Auditorium of Torun in Poland.
The work of the Plaza of Spain in Adeje - Menis Arquitectos remodelled and expanded the Plaza Espana, which houses the Museo Sacro, a gazebo and municipal offices. This remodelling increased the plaza surface by two and a half times, generating two spaces: a permanent stage and a low area, opening the Barranco del Infierno. The work has generated new areas of amenities for the town, respecting the history of the place.
WAF is the largest global gathering of architecture, where professionals have the most innovative projects. In this 2012 edition, the festival is taking place in the main centre of Singapore.
The WAF movement brings unprecedented opportunities to the East Meet the West, providing inspiration, developing its global network and plan new projects.
