I thought those mooring things were capstans ?, i remember banging my vera's on one in Antibes, i could have cried

Love the last one my kind of photo as is the rusty mooring bollard.
Up early in morning as we've had some stunning sunrises past few days so camera battery is on charge and off to try some photos of sunrise, will post them if it works out OK.

Nah, you stick a lump of wood in a capstan and turn it round like a winch to lift things...

Bollards, handy for sitting on. The bit on the the front of the boat that you tie the mooring line to is called a Sampson post. Cos it has to be strong I suppose, ie; not fitted by me. InfoForum.
