This place got a huge surge in popularity when Dan Brown's book "The Da Vinci Code", used the chapel as the hiding place of the "Holy Grail". BBC Scotland

Re: Rosslyn chapel.
Apparently, Roslyn chapel is built upon a large underground cavern but , ( apparently) the Trust or Foundation that has responsibility for the church, won't allow any excavations to see what's down there. If it was the Spear of Destiny, we could use it to raise an army to fight a holy war. Well, why not?? Everybody else seems to be doing it.

Re: Rosslyn chapel.
The whole area around Roslin is wonderful we only live 2 miles from there and our eldest daughter lives at the start of Roslin glen which itself is a wonderful place, during the summer last year Val and I took a walk along the glen, it was really great, there were people with birds of prey and wild buzzards flying overhead it gave the place a really strange feel , there were tourists from all over the world heading to and from the chapel, as for underground tunnels that is true but the entire area is famous for this as it is an old mining area and the monks were famous for mining near to monastries, well worth a visit if you are near Auld Reekie

Re: Rosslyn chapel.
I visited about 10 years ago with Mermaid, my youngest daughter and her pal. Me and Mermaid had a great time walking round (apprentice pillar is brilliant!), daughter and pal sat in the car. Kids!

Its only about 10 miles from Edinburgh isn't it? We were thinking of going there the last time I was over but was too pissed. ( was at the rugby in Murrayfield)

Yeah, about a 25 minute drive out of Edinburgh. If you get lost you can go to Costco!

Re: Rosslyn chapel.
He had a good laugh and we had a good blether, marked his card on a few nice places to visit locally, he had fallen in love with the country and was looking forward to returning, he was staying in Dalhousie Castle Hotel and could not believe places like that existed

America's a very young country compared to UK. Their castles were US military forts for use against the Indians.
