Would anyone know the correct terminology for this? Eileen's new car driver's door opens fully wide with no resistance. Most cars open half way and there is some resistance ( I presume it helps stop the door flying wide open when getting out of the car, when its windy). If any of you mechanically minded people could suggest how to fix this, I would be forever in your debt!!

The check strap is either loose or broken, fix it sooner than later other wise the first gust of wind will wreck your door, and even the front wing, Sounds like its a high mileage car for that to happen, Taxis suffer alot with it,

Yes it is M. Spent the day shampooing the carpets and upholstery trying to get the smell of stale smoke out of it!

Tin tray with scented candles left burning overnight, in the footwells and boot area, leave a window open 1/2 inch,
and it is usualy the head lining above the driver where the smoke smell comes from, nobody ever looks up when buying a car,

I did!!. It has one of those panoramic roofs but you can close it over. I had a look at the headliner and it is pretty clean. I had to turn the car upside down to shampoo it though

Useful bunch aint they Dermot. Compare the mechanism with the left hand door. Anything missing? Or loose? Usually a sprung metal bar.
