I was at a sustainable energy show a few years ago. They had the new "must have" vehicle for a tradesperson. An all electric peugeot boxer van with loads of room and height. Did 60 miles to each charge on open road as well. 44000 euro. Feckin bargain that!

Its the battery's that cost the money, Was it a Ferrari that kept setting fire recently ?, That was the battery too, and the dreamliner airplane, Also some mobile phones, So long way to go before they will sell any cars with that on board, Toyota are in the lead, but they have an engine too,

As mentioned in another thread place I worked went on an all "Green" crusade, guy put in charge of it project demanded a "Green" company car, couldn't be seen turning up at meetings in a gas guzzler, tut, tut...3rdforum wrote:I was at a sustainable energy show a few years ago. We purchased one of the early hybrids, due to the mileage the guy had to do it meant it was running on diesel more than electric, even taking in to account the time it ran on electric it still returned some of the worst mpg figures out of or fleet of company cars, green my arse...

Re: Shocking...
Some years back I was involved with a company that operated some electric vehicles, as per nowadays they were more expensive to purchase compared to conventional powered vehicles, but the companies promoting them boasted about their low running costs using cheap off peak electricity to charge the batteries overnight, this was a true statement, but what they did not do was factor in the cost of replacing the battery approx every three to four years, these were conventional lead/acid traction batteries, I do not know the lifespan of the more modern batteries, but once the battery replacement and charging cost were factored in, the running costs exceeded conventional diesel powered vehicles, plus there was little or no residual value at the end of the electric vehicles life, result, change in purchasing policy...Mcqueen wrote:Its the battery's that cost the money, Was it a Ferrari that kept setting fire recently ?, That was the battery too, and the dreamliner airplane, Also some mobile phones, So long way to go before they will sell any cars with that on board, Toyota are in the lead, but they have an engine too,

Re: Shocking...
These electric vehicles are a load of blox. Hydrogen fuel cell is the future. Any new filling station being built in California has to install hydrogen tanks. But those tanks might already be redundant. Honda have an engine that runs on distilled water. They run an electrical current ( generated by either a PV panel on the roof or by a little turbine on one of the air intakes) through the water to split the hydrogen from the oxygen molecules. What comes out the exhaust? Fresh air! Only problem is that the engine costs 3 million quid.
