Picture this! it's fireworks night on the last night of the Edinburgh festival, there are 250,000 people in and around Princes street, the street of course is closed to all traffic, in my wisdom I decided to have omelette surprise[baked Alaska] for desert in the restaurant where I worked , but as it was firework night I decided to have sparklers on the desert , we lined up the waiters ,lit the sparklers and into the restaurant they marched , only problem was I had forgotten to disable the smoke detectors ,you can imagine the scene, sheer panic, luckily I had been talking to the fire officer who inspected the place prior to the festival and had told him of my intentions , so when the alarm went off he put 2&2 together and phoned to check that all was O.K. thank God for that as it would have been pandemonium if they had to attend an incident at that moment, I think he is still dining for free even now
