I heard the emergency services were out looking for a hiker who had got lost/hurt in Ifonche, which is the other end of the Barranco del Infierno so when you say they went up higher they probably were heading to the other end of the barranco.

Not being funny, but if the guy is lying injured somewhere, with the heat of the sun warming him and the surrounding ground, rocks etc, do thermal imaging cameras work...

Core temperature for a human is 37 degrees C. Would the surrounding rocks be that warm? Can helicopters fly at night when the rocks are cooler?

I don´t think they can fly at night, I seem to remember when we had the fires that they stopped each evening and started as soon as it got light. So in the barranco which is deep and I expect the can get well down into it, they probably can´t see where they are going so dangerous for them too.

It may be he took shelter yesterday in one of the rock caves and did not have the strength to get back out.
