Education your thoughts

Do you prefer a system where children are put in fast and slow streams or is it better to create mixed ability classes?

Which system do you favour for measuring children’s progress : final exams or continuous assessment?

I think continuous assessment is better for the child and parents.. As for fast stream and slow stream classes no. I do not like the segregation.

Playing devils advocate here and I am not really sure what I agree with since I cant remember school days.

Surely if a bright child is in a mixed ability class then they can only work to the pace of the slowest which will pull them back or bore them, they will then become disruptive and end up not doing their best.

Disruptive, Yes i can hear the teacher now, Well i was bored, And what do they say boredom is, There is a saying, But i wasnt listening, School - I hated every minute,

I think banding is good providing it is done per subject and not as an overall.

Poor kids as against Rich kids would be top class everytime for common sense.

It does drag kids down if someone is not as quick as much as it gets ones bored if they don't understand.

If a kid is great at English Literature what is the chance they are going to be good at metalwork. I reckon the one at the bottom of English class would be better.
