Fort George was built immediately after the battle of Culloden in order to suppress any more Jacobite uprisings in the Highlands. The fort was built at a staggering cost of £200,000. It controlled the narrow strait between Channonry Point and Ardersier and the Inner Moray Firth leading to Inverness. It was never used in anger as Culloden was the last battle on the British mainland, however, it is still home to The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment Of Scotland.
