Floods in Somerset and on the Thames
Just had a look to see if these areas are in whats known as a flood plain. Indeed they are! Not surprising they are getting wet feet then is it?

Yes, apparently a river hasnt been dredged. A similar problem happened at Wells Harbour in Norfolk last year. The Marine Management Organisation refused to renew the license for dredging the channel there and of course it would soon fill up with silt and sand resulting in Fisherman not being able to go to sea, the windfarm support vessels not being able to work, no leisure sailing (me) and indeed no crabs for the kiddies to catch off the harbour wall. The end of a thriving seaside village then. Fortunately after much jumping up and down by locals they relented and issued a (temporary) licence. Local people know whats best, Government departments just waste rather than save money, simples.

And now we have the River Thames bursting it's banks onto similar flood plains.
The locals, who drive round in their gas guzzling Chelsea Tractors rather than walk, cycle or bus somehow think the Government is to blame.
Plus, all the money that we donate and send abroad in times of famine / flood / earthquake / tsunami etc. is going to be returned to help sort it all out.
Bollocks

Got a feeling Innit lives at Blackheath, near the Thames but on top of a bloody great hill.

Yelas. Think I have upset him too by getting banned from his new local the Buccaneer or maybe telling him he went over the top in the Heritage but who knows? Not me, I was pissed.

Join the club - he used to call me Mum, told me which forums he had joined and what his username was and when I acknowledged it went into a strop said it was a secret and not heard from him since.

Re: Floods in Somerset and on the Thames
Back on topic, what I don´t understand is they know they are on a flood plain - they know the weather is bad - but nobody bothers to move any of their furniture and belongings to a higher level, are they just hoping that insurance will pay out. But what's the bet it is act of god or force majeure!!
