1965 we were driving home to blightey from Germany ,we missed the last ferry from Ostende and so had a few others ,we only had enough time to catch the last Dunkirk ferry if we hammered it and so we set off, after a few minutes driving we came across a police car [French] and the cops were hammering the roof of a car[Opel Kapitan] with their batons and pistol buts , the guys inside were fellow squadies rushing to catch the same ferry as us, when we met them on the boat we asked them what had happened and apparently this was the cops way of teaching them a lesson instead of booking them
