Is Ireland going to join England and Albania as being the only 2 countries in Europe which do not teach History as a compulsory subject until the age of 15? I sincerely hope not! Irish Times

Re: History in Irish Junior Schools.
I hope not. It was my favourite subject. I even took it for my leaving cert ( A levels). That said, Eoghan is sitting 10 subjects for his Junior Cert ( O levels). Too many anyone to get a grasp of a subject properly.
English
Irish
Maths
Geography
History
Science
Technology
Art
French
CSPE ( Civic Social Political Education)
It would have been 11 only he dropped German after 1st year.

Re: History in Irish Junior Schools.
Dont think they even did O levels in my approved school. The Headmaster there, a Welshman by the name of Jones none the less didnt believe in corporal punishment hence we done whatever we felt like. Bit like todays schools then. Didnt like History anyway, Kings and Queens and stoneage crap. World War 2 would have been far more interesting but there you go, no mention of the Germans.
