Handouts my arse. We got loans that have/are being paid off with resulting poverty and suicide rates more than doubling here. The only ones that got a handout were the Spanish banks bailed out directly by the ECB. Every other country , the taxpayer bailed them out, including UK and Ireland. UK offset some of the pain by devaluing the pound through quantitative easing ( Bank of England printing money ). We couldn't cos we're part of the Eurozone. If UK leaves, I want Ireland to go with her. Europe shafted the Irish big time. As long as the French and Germans are happy, the rest can go feck themselves. We should set up a sterlingzone in these islands and bring the Icelanders in as well. They stuck the 2 fingers to Europe originally. Wish we all had the same balls.

The thing is , we used to be pegged to the sterling pound, so a monetary union is not without precedence. Don't think it will ever happen but that's not to say its a bad idea.
