Was first time I went abroad, mainland Spain it was with wife No 1, would have been in our early twenties, like rabbits looking in to the headlights we were signing up for every excursion the rep flung at us, one of them was a BBQ, she explains bus takes you out of town to a big ranch, free drinks food and entertainment plus a disco to finish the night off... Night of BBQ  comes around, off we set from hotel in the coach, we arrive at venue, to this day I have never seen so many busses in one place, a parking area bigger than a football pitch full of them bumper to bumper... So ticket shown we're herded in to a area where they're dishing up free beer wine and sangria, when everyone's  there we're herded (again) in to the open air theatre area, it was massif, a "D" shaped stage with a seating area like a fan spread out around it, with picnic benches fanning out from the stage like spokes from a wheel so everyone could see the stage, there were thousands of us there not hundreds...
Entertainment starts, music, flamenco, singers, bands, etc,,, tables are set with bowls of salad and bread, plus jugs of beer, wine and sangria... Loads of waiters/waitresses going round offering you chicken, steaks, pork etc, as and when you needed it, and I still recall it was yum...
Sitting opposite us was a family of five, dad about forty, but an OK guy, wife deffo ok, two sons twelvish, and granny, the mother in law, all very polite... to our left both sides of the table about eight young guys, late teens, well spoken and just enjoying themselves...
Night is progressing well, guy and girl come around taking the "official" photographs, girls got a porron full of wine pouring in to punters while the guy takes the photo,,, she's pouring the wine in to the young guy sitting next to granny, he can't swallow it fast enough and pushes her hand away, spout of wine hits granny sitting next to him,,, granny's not happy, picks up his pint and throws it over him,,, hitting everyone in the surrounding  area, guys mate sitting next to him who got most of it picks up jug of beer and throws it over granny, and again everyone surrounding her, she in turn picks up salad bowl and screws contents in to guy sitting next to hers head who was initially the one who choked on the wine, who basically ain't got a clue what's going on,,, well,,, it was like a mushroom from a nuclear bomb, everyone who got hit with a bit of food or wine just joined in,,, place was in an uproar, no fighting, just a massif food fight, compares going mad, threatening to get the police, bands pulled off the stage...
Once food and drink ran out and there was nothing to throw we were again herded to our coaches, no disco or more free drink and sent home...

All because of a feckin granny who got a wee bit wine spilt on to her by accident..............
