Is it beneficial to the forum if we do not sign in as hidden as this will help to push the numbers on the visit by members over the last 24hrs up?

Forgive my ignorance here, but what benefit is it if our member visiting numbers are up or down? ( I'd be all for any suggestion if it helps the forum!)

I would as a visitor only seeing a small number of members visiting the site would thing its not worth joining and its on its last legs.

People lurk, become addicted, initially post a “Thanks”, then follows their first post (usually nothing controversial), then another, followed by another... next thing they’re addicted... The organisation I represent (The International Union of Lurkers) recognised this problem from the early days of the net but felt tied in speaking out...
Recent examples which came to light on your own forum bear out the problems, initially “C########m” and now “G###y” are obviously questioning their alliance, (statistics do show a hereditary trend).
Its a bit of the “Been there, done it, got the t-shirt syndrome”, now what do I do, or more, how can I break the circle.
The “Logging In As Hidden” option is one the organisation fully support, we see it as a bit of a “half way house”, officially a member, but to be honest “lurking”.
It is unfortunate to see (C########m) fall back, “six days without a post, commendable”, (support is available).
As an organisation we have to be commercially aware and fully understand the importance of “lurkers” to your stats... We therefore are prepared to accept donations on behalf of our membership for such services provided.

Thanks Vince but it is not well done to me mate. Reg prompted me then Gypsy and Cam along with a Mermaid swimming in to do the leg work for us and without all you good people we would be down the pan.
I truefully believe we now have the best Admin team of the 3 main forums, perhaps none of us are computer geniuses (well Cam gets by
), but we pull together and any issues we seek advice.Nice to see Howard back, yes H you were 3rd, after lurking for a while
Now you can see with our new google status the importance of these bots and Lurkers.

I prefer to stay hidden due to all the stalking Estate Agents who seem to follow me around.
As for the lazy lurkers who refuse to contribute, well, not many at present, so well done TD.

This thread is nothing at all to do with lurkers it's to do with how others may view the forum. I was trying to think of a way to try and attract more members and hopefully more posters. Of course when people sign they have the option of remaining hidden but if everybody did it it would look as if the forum had died a slow lingering death which would give some a good laugh.

I agree with you Innit. The more members online that guests see may prompt them to join or post. However it is up to an individual whether they want to be "seen" or not. Not a lot we can do about it.

But it always displays this information:- "In total there are 15 users online :: 3 Registered, 4 Hidden and 8 Guests". so that should confirm how busy we are.

That's great - the more users we have online the better.
All I hope for, is that those who register as so called members, make a contribution now and again.
