Re: Turkish military coup attempt.
Turkey has prided itself over the years at being a secular state. Erdogan is a strong Islamist who wants to create an autocratic Sharia based state. He is already shutting down independent media and turning the presidency from ceremonial to all powerful. The are 2 reasons the Western leaders want the coup to fail. 1. Turkey are frontline against the shite going on in middle east and 2. they are the ones taking in the vast majority of refugees . I'm not a fan of military coups but can't help but feel that this would have been one of the better ones.

Re: Turkish military coup attempt.
I agree completely Carol. It's pretty much the same reason I have never gone. I'm just afraid that Erdogan is an Islamist fundamental version of Putin.zdeekie wrote:I have many Friends in Cyprus that fled from Turkey & had to leave everything behind & start again , buisness , houses , land all possessions . One of two reasons: a fake coup to better his cause or an IS attempt, and if the latter, then good, he will take out IS.
