    Remember  one of my mates being in to it when we were in our teens, when he entered his pigeons in to races they were "Ringed", he was then  given a box which had a clock attached, as the pigeons returned he removed the rings and pushed them in to a slot in the box, this somehow recorded the time they had returned...
