A few weeks ago I got a letter from Transport for London informing me I had been fined £750 for driving my camper van in the London zone in September. It was originally £500 but they upped it as I had not paid up. As I never got an original notification I'm thinking to myself nice scam pal, will I pay, will I FECK as like! Anyway I had wrongly assumed that camper vans under 3500kg were exempt but no, they changed the rules some years ago so I was blissfully anaware and probably drive it in London about every 3 months I guess. In fact it has been there at least twice since September so thats a grand total of £2,250 they will likely be chasing me for. I was just biding my time and quite looking forward to my day in Court but I havent actually contacted them about it thinking I will leave the ball in their court and see what transpires. Well today I get a letter from them informing me the fine has been cancelled and if I have already paid I will get a refund. No explanation, nowt! So I spent some time trawling the web but to no avail. Its my guess somebody has indeed fought them in the Courts and won their case. If this is so then well done pal, you are my hero.

Re: Low Emission Zone
Its an absolute ludicrous fine to pay and they would have spent years chasing it and trust me I'm good at hiding. If you go through the Dartford Tunnel not realising you have to pay £2.50 on line within I think 48 hours they send you a letter for your first offence and you just pay the toll and thats it, now you know! This other thing is totally unjust and definitly puts the old speed camera in the slow lane so to speak! I checked on the Government website today and according to that having put registration number in I am STILL not allowed in the Zone, which basically covers the area between the North and South circular roads, so I wont be going anywhere near it in future. No wonder the M25s always like a bleeding car park. When I go to Buck Palace to collect my Knighthood I will jump on the tube at Epping.

Re: Low Emission Zone
Feckin problem is local authorities can now make up their own rules and if you ain't used to driving in that town/city your fecked, should be one rule for all the UK, just read yesterday or today that London are gonna double the charge for diesel cars in the congestion zone...
Manchester, latest thing is making parts of city centre streets, busses, taxies and bikes only, so your driving along and next thing it's no go, you end up going round in circles to get to where your going, which is often only a couple of hundred yards from where you've been diverted of the road that goes direct to it...

Re: Low Emission Zone
Also since I'm on the soap box...
I was involved in transport, simplest and most cost effective way to do the job fill the truck and deliver to the most customers covering the shortest distance with the same trucks,,, very green environmentaly...
Then, delivery time restrictions, loading time restrictions, weight restrictions, emission restrictions, etc, etc,,, so what do you end up with loads more trucks churning out more emissions,,, I had runs where drivers would sit out side supermarket gates for hours waiting for to make the delivery, the reason, the supermarket a mile along the road wanted delivery 6am, but the one a mile along the road wasn't allowed delivers till 8am, and it made no sense to sent two trucks due to distance involved so the driver just sat there for 2 or so hours,,, so rather than running one 23 ton truck you end up running three 7.5 ton trucks,,, crazy...

Re: Low Emission Zone
Cambridge are jumping on the band wagon too. Not that driving there at the moment is of much use anyway, half an hour to get there then an hour to do the last 2 miles. Big queues at every set of lights and blocked off side streets so no escape even if you know your way about. Oh, and bikes all over the place and grubby student houses with over filling bins from take outs............

Re: Low Emission Zone
Bit like Las Chafiras at 4pm actually. Quicker to do a detour.
Talking of Tenerife that motorway is becoming a joke. Constantly getting blocked due to accidents. Got caught 3 times last week when I was there. I do have a solution,,,,, 80kph speed limit 7am to 7pm.

Re: Low Emission Zone
Avoid the place if at all possible, it was great 50 years ago. No blacks in my school and definitely no bloody muslims. London mayor is one. Just sums it up. Bradford South.
