We did the Rhine and Moselle a lot of years ago, I think it was with AVALON it was excellent but we now use ARCHERS for all our tours because they really spoil you and  I see they also do cruises.

Have a look at Shearings River Cruises.

We have done 4 river cruises, the last one with Daily Mail Travel (when we got a BOGOFF deal last year) and the boat we were on was MS Serenade2, which I have to say was the best river cruise boat I've been on, huge cabins, bathrooms with shower and separate bath, good food, crew incredible.

That is one of the boats Shearings are using this year, the others are not as salubrious as MS Serenade 2.

Have a look at it HERE

Other thing about this boat is that you have proper beds with memory foam mattresses.

A lot of the river cruise boats only have fold away beds which double up as seating through the day.

We have done the Rhine, the Rhine & the Moselle and the Danube.

Our preferred order is the Danube, the Rhine & the Moselle, then the Rhine.

We found the Rhine on it's own was nice but a bit boring.

Try and get a Rhine cruise that does not touch the Netherlands there is nothing to see there {flat]

Would you not consider a sea cruise?, they give much better value for money!

Took your advice Bobmac, MS Serenade 2 booked for 2nd August. 8 days fly from Edinburgh. Trip is called "Hidden Gems of the Danube". Linz to Budapest and back. Booked the Chopin mini-suite so we get our own balcony area. Only downside I can see is we have to fly from Edinburgh to Amsterdam first then change flights to Munich, then coach to Linz. (I hate feckin' airports!) River Rhine cruises. 3025408739 Mermaid is getting quite excited now, she wasn't fully convinced before... lol!

Here's a photo of the boat...
