Just watched a program about cruse ships visiting Orkney, I have ties to both Orkney and Shetland, my dads patents both Orkneyadin but my dad was born Leith, and I married a girl from Shetland, been Shetland god knows as how many times, think I've drove every road on the hundred islands, nearest I've been to Orkney was a couple of years back when ferry (12 hour trip approx) called in to Orkney to drop off pick up goods/passengers, it was midnight so didn't get off... Watching tv program tonight I have no wish to visit Orkney, yip a lot of war history, not really my thing,,, but for rugged scenery get yourself to Shetland Cam, about four/five days with a car you can cover it, base yourself Lerwick then head out daily, I've been the most northly point you can drive in the UK, it was a wild day, just what I wanted...
