Hi Howard, welcome back.

Just been talking to Cru. Think it might be an idea to have a chat room added to the forum, that way you can all talk crap and nobody can watch you without logging in. That'll sort your lurkers out

I voted YES but fear the lurkers will all vote NO for obvious reasons !

The only ones that can vote are the active members. My problem with a chat room on here is those that use it will not post on the forum.
Another thing if it was to be added there could still be restrictions which the hosts has rules about. So it might not be a place where you could say whatever. You could always just keep sending private messages to one another

Easy Jim, you log in as most of the lurkers do, you go to a post as most of the lurkers do and then you actually click on the yes or the no in the poll. Of course in an ideal world you would also participate in the conversations by posting your own thoughts.

The trouble with most online communities is 90% of users are lurkers who never contribute, 9% of users contribute a little, and 1% of users account for almost all the action.


Of course the downside of this is that the 90% are unlikely to ever post because there is nothing that really interests them and there wont be until they start contributing. Bit of a Catch22

A lurker can not vote if they are not active members as they cannot sign in. I think by active members Mermaid meant those that have not had their accounts deactivated. Well that's how I read it anyhow

All of them if they want to log on.

A few have never logged on and some that have logged on and not posted have been sent emails but of course if they are using false email addresses they don´t know this

I have activated the "Chatroom". You access it via "Home" button and scroll down to the bottom where you log-in on the right hand side. However, I don't see how this will stop registered members from viewing/posting. Be aware there are "Moderating" buttons for this area too!
You type your message in the small box at the lower right hand side and hit "Send". You can also change the font colour and add smileys from here.
