Winter Visitors

Hola All

My partner and I have booked our flights out on 10th December and returning to UK on 30th January. We have previously visited Tenerife for a week and seen some of the 'main' sights.  This time we are spending just over 7 weeks and plan to hire a car and travel around, booking accommodation as we go, preferably with cooking facitilities.  We hope to really get to know Tenerife better and of course escape a portion of the British winter.  I'm brushing up on my Spanish that I learnt a long time ago at school.

It would be great to get some tips as to car hire and accommodation, and maybe to meet up for activities??

Hi Chris, as asked for by previous people, Autoreisen seems to be the car rental of choice. You've given yourself plenty of time to get to know the Island as well. I'm not up to speed on accommodation just now but hopefully somone can help. Glad to have you on the forum.

Thanks for your answers and the tip regarding car hire.  When we have more of a plan I will ask specifics about where to go etc. We are particularly interested in wildlife/birds, so anticipate spending more time in the North, not interested in the big resorts in the South.

Don't write off the South, that's where most of the "wildlife" exists 

Not sure if any of the car hire companies lease for 7 weeks. I think a month might be the max. Autoreisen is the company i always use. No quibbles, car inspections etc etc. Just drop the keys off when you return as insurance is included in the hire price. another welcome to the forum from me

Is there anyone here that is actually from Tenerife? I thought everyone was in the UK but that might just be the way I read things.  If wrong which member is the expert?

"Topdog" the Founder is from Tenerife. He lives in Adeje but doesn't have time to come on so much now. Busy man... "Red Queen" is also from Tenerife but she seems to have left us and joined a FB-based Tenerife forum.

Are people on this forum all over Tenerife? Living in Tenerife? Do you meet up for activities like we do in U3A in England? I've just joined in England and someone told me about this. How do I find out about what is happening and where?

Nearly all of us are from the UK. We have just had a meet-up at York last weekend. 8 of us came. Me and my Mrs. (From Scotland) McQueen and his Mrs,(From England), 3rdForum and his Mrs (from Ireland) and ZDeekie and partner (From England). We usually only meet once a year, last year it was Windermere. We have had 1 meet-up on Tenerife but that was back in 2012. Carol (ZDeekie), usually starts the ball rolling at the end of summer to see where we might meet up, so just keep watching the posts. (Usually Sept/Oct. time).
